Suspended on my kitchen wall, is a worded picture which states:
“Those who think diamonds are a girl’s best friend have never owned a horse.”
This shares my first great passion since I was three years old; horses! I am the proud owner of a beautiful ex-racer, Hugo. Hugo lives a much more peaceful life with me after years of working hard for his previous owners on the racetrack! Together we potter about and enjoy our beautiful field, listening to the birds and taking in all the beautiful surroundings nature provides!
My husband Glyn and I, and our two children, Sebby and George have a great admiration for all things flora and fauna. Together with Glyn’s parents, Rosemary and Trevor, we are rewilding our 7-acre field, creating natural ponds, planting wildlife hedges and planting over 2000 trees! We hope to encourage as many insects, birds and wildlife to our land as possible as well as wildflowers.
I started my working life as a trainee Dental Nurse in 2000. I went on to qualify with the National Certificate in Dental Nursing then Dental Radiography and spent most of my time assisting Dental Implant Surgeons. I was even a clinical rep for an Implant company. I finished my Dental Nursing career working in community NHS practice, this role offered many opportunities including Special Care Dentistry, Paediatrics, Theatre lists, Emergency care plus a lot more! I worked throughout the Covid pandemic which was an experience!
Covid taught many of us many things but for me it taught me life is precious and to take a chance and follow your dreams! So that’s exactly what I did! Flowers and flower arranging bring me so much joy and pleasure so with this in mind I decided to retrain as a Florist. In 2021 I completed Level 1 in Floral Art and Design at Reaseheath College in Nantwich and then went on to do Level 2 and finally Level 3, Advanced Floral Art and Design and subsequently have established my business, Field Floristry.

I work from both my workshop at home and our beautiful field in the Tern valley, in the heart of the Shropshire countryside. At the field, I grow foliage, wildflowers, an assortment of grasses and run wreath making classes and other flower arranging workshops. We have a log burner in the workshop, it gets very cosy and is great for Christmas wreath making classes! It’s also in the most idyllic location, the River Tern flows alongside it. King Fishers can be seen regularly flying along the river in summer searching for their next meal. We have lots of other wildlife visitors too including Foxes, Badgers, Otters and sometimes Deer!
In December 2015 tragedy hit out family when we lost our dear Dad, he was the rock of our family and the reason behind our shared love of animals and nature. Dad spent his early years in Zimbabwe where his love of nature started. Dad (and Mum) spent hours driving my sister and I, with ponies in tow to shows all over the county. I remember on the journeys he would talk fondly of his time in Zimbabwe and the African bush, watching and observing his beloved nature, in particular the birds! Dad left a huge hole in our lives and when it came to his funeral and arranging his funeral flowers, it was extremely important to Mum, my sisters, brothers and I that we included Dad’s favourite flower, the yellow rose. He had a gorgeous climbing yellow rose growing in the garden which he nurtured for years. We had a yellow rose casket arrangement, it was beautiful and truly fitting for him. To this day I cannot help but look at a yellow rose and think of my wonderful Dad. Every December, on his anniversary, Glyn will buy a bouquet of yellow roses and hands them to me with a sympathetic and loving smile, it’s a special reminder of a wonderful man.
Through my own experience I appreciate how incredibly important farewell flowers are and its always an honour to be asked to create them.
On a happier note, I love a wedding! All the love and romance, the prettiness of the flowers and decorations, everyone in good spirits, enjoying fine food and drink. Flowers play such an important part of this. I had my favourite flower for my wedding bouquet; the red Naomi rose. It blooms romance with its rich red colour and velvety petals. Creating wedding flowers fills me with happy memories and joy for the happy couple, again it’s an honour to be asked to be their floral designer and be a part of their special day.
Field Floristry is a family run business, everyone has a role to play, from cleaning buckets to dressing archways to making deliveries. My Mum, Georgina, is a very special lady and she is also very creative! Mum loves to help me when she can, so much so she too has completed Level 1 Floral Art and Design at Reaseheath College. Glyn constructs all the mechanics, he’s very handy with a drill! David my new Step-dad helps with lifting, carrying and delivering. Amber my youngest niece, another creative in the family, alongside her college course helps with event work. Georgia, my older niece, is head of accounts having recently qualified as an accountant! And finally, my delightful boys help to navigate the deliveries.
Owning Field Floristry is a dream come true, all my arrangements are created with great love and care. I thank all my customers old and new for supporting me and making it happen!
Much love,
Emma x
